This page has answers to frequently asked questions about our transition to a cPanel hosting environment.
Q: What is involved in moving my hosting account from an old plan to the new cPanel setup?
A: After you submit a technical support request for the move, we'll work with you to determine the best way to move your site, taking into consideration your particular setup. In many cases, we'll do all the grunt work, and you just get to login to your new control panel when we're done. The process can take anywhere from a day to a week, depending on the components being moved.
Q: Will you move my mail accounts over too?
A: Maybe. For some of our hosting clients with lots of mail users, the move of all of mail accounts and related settings could be significantly disruptive and time consuming. The great thing is, we can leave your mail setup where it is and still move your website over to the new control panel.
Q: Will my past website usage statistics be preserved as a part of the transition?
A: Unfortunately, no. Our new control panel setup has a much nicer and more user-friendly stats program ("AWStats") that we think you'll enjoy, but it is not compatible with our old stats program ("Wusage"). We would advise you to manually record any of the major stats about your past site usage (e.g. visits per quarter) so that you can have some historical data if need be.
Q: I'm not sure if I should move or not - any advice?
A: Well, if you've ever found yourself thinking "gosh, I really wish Summersault's hosting services offered X, Y, or Z like those other hosting companies do," then a move may be just the thing for you. On the other hand, if you're happy with your account as it is, and don't feel the need for a change, then why mess with something so good?
Q: What if I don't want to move my account? Will you still support it?
A: Of course! We have no plans to stop supporting our current/past hosting environment. And if you want to, we'll raise your disk space and bandwidth limits to the new plan levels so you still get some benefit!
Q: What does it cost to move my account over?
A: There is no charge for having your account moved from our old infrastructure to the new setup. In some cases, you may wish to hire Summersault to assist you in making updates to the content or structure of your site, as a part of the move.
Q: Is this just some new marketing promotion, or some other fad that will soon pass?
A: No. We've invested thousands of dollars and lots of time in making this new option available. We're confident that our new hosting plans will help you get the most out of your website, and empower you to do even more with the technologies of the Internet. We're really excited about it, and we hope you are too!
