Fall, 1996: Chris Hardie and Mark Stosberg meet as classmates at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. Both Computer Science majors, they forge a common interest in discussing and critiquing websites and related technologies. They also enjoyed juggling together around campus.
Summer, 1997: Mark works at a Cincinnati, Ohio web design firm where Chris had worked the preceding summer. Chris and Mark hang out together and talk about HTML editors while passing six glow-in-the-dark balls.
July, 1997: Chris spends part of the summer hanging out in Beaufort, South Carolina. Free one weekend, Mark makes the twelve hour drive from Ohio for a quick visit. While juggling on the beach together, Chris and Mark have The Conversation about creating a company together.
August, 1997:, Chris and Mark found Summersault. Still students at Earlham and working out of Chris` dorm room, Summersault begins to create sites for regional organizations. Mark learns to manage flaming torches, Chris improves his throw from behind the back.
Summer, 1998: Mark returns from a semester in New York as Chris returns from a semester in Scotland. They open an office in Richmond, Indiana's uptown business district, co-located with a local Internet Service Provider. The walkway in front of the building proves to be ideal for afternoon juggling breaks.
1999: Summersault grows quickly to meet the needs of local and regional businesses, while taking on several projects for national clients. The company begins to actively participate in the open source movement, with the contribution to several existing projects and the formation of our own open source initiatives. Chris and Mark perfect passing seven balls and dabble with eight and nine.
2000: The firm moves to a new office in Richmond, increasing size and improving infrastructure to meet the demands of growth. Summersault expands its staff, and with clients in more than 20 states, Summersault establishes a solid presence in the local, regional, national, and virtual communities in which it works.
2001: As its growth continues, Summersault juggles various recognition and awards, including a profile in Entrepreneur magazine, numerous local business awards, design awards, and staff recognition.
2002 to present: Summersault continues to produce excellent customized online solutions as it increases focus on database driven websites and using technology to build and sustain communities.
