Interested in a unique employment opportunity?

Summersault website development, founded in 1997, creates elegant Internet solutions that build community.  We use open source software and our team’s breadth and depth of knowledge of web technologies to provide our clients with consulting services and Internet tools that help them do what they do better.  We seek to hire creative, resourceful, adaptable people who can bring a diverse set of talents into our professional, collaborative environment.

Open Positions

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following positions:

(Don’t see a position you fit into but still want to work at Summersault?  We welcome creative efforts to convince us that we need you.)

Inquiring

Every inquiry about working at Summersault should include these components:

  1. Cover letter: A personalized communication about why you’re interested in working at Summersault.  We really want to know in what particular ways you think employment with us would be mutually beneficial.
  2. Resume: Include your full name, how to get in touch with you, relevant present and past employment, specific levels of proficiency with key tools and technologies, educational achievements, awards and recognitions, and personal hobbies and interests.
  3. Professional References: At least three contacts who can speak from direct experience about the quality of your professional work. Indicate clearly if we should get your permission before contacting any reference.
  4. A Writing Sample: A substantive existing document that demonstrates the quality of your written communication skills (e.g. proposals, research documents, project communications, academic papers, etc).

All employment inquiries can be directed to the attention of Chris Hardie. No calls or unscheduled office visits, please. E-mail careers@summersault.com or send postal mailings to 710 E Main St., Suite 200, Richmond, IN 47374.

We review and respond to all the inquiries we receive that follow the above guidelines.

Summersault wishes to build a staff that reflects the gender and racial diversity of the society at large, and therefore we are particularly interested in inviting and encouraging applications from African Americans, other ethnic minorities, and women.

The Interview and Hiring Process

If an inquiry meets these guidelines and includes all of the requested materials, candidates should hear a response from us within one week.  If we decide to pursue the opportunity, we’ll set up an initial conversation between the candidate and company management.  If we decide to continue pursuing the opportunity after that, we’ll usually have the candidate perform some sort of demonstration of qualifications and position-specific knowledge, as well as participate in a second conversation with additional Summersault staff.  Depending on the outcome of those activities, we may set up a final conversation with all of Summersault’s staff, prior to making a position offer.

At each step of the way, candidates are encouraged to bring detailed questions and observations about the position and about what it means to work at Summersault.

Employment Benefits

We work hard at Summersault to create an atmosphere and culture that shows our team members how much we value their work and their contributions to Summersault’s success. We view our employees as partners in a team effort, and see their own mental and physical well-being as just as important as the work they do for the company and its clients.

Summersault’s regular employee benefit and reward programs include:

  • Flexible scheduling that helps employees to arrange their work lives in balance with their personal lives
  • A competitive health insurance plan for employees and dependents, including vision and dental benefits
  • Unlimited paid vacation days for qualifying staff
  • An “employee wellness” plan that provides resources and funds for proactive activities that help to keep our employees healthy
  • Retirement savings plans
  • A Volunteering and Community Service Program that rewards employees for their service efforts in our local community, and charitable gift matching to encourage financial giving in particular
  • A “kudos” program that regularly rewards employees for outstanding contributions in the office
  • Regular in-depth reviews that provide each team member with concrete professional goals and feedback on their successes
  • Opportunities for having professional development and continuing education expenses covered by the company
  • Regular team-building activities

Internships

Summersault is a small enough company that it can be a challenge to devote enough resources to short-term internships that make them sufficiently valuable to the intern or to the company.  That said, we welcome creative inquiries from students and others who see an opportunity to contribute to our team while learning more about what we do.  Contact careers@summersault.com with your cover letter and resume, and make sure to let us know the term and type (paid or unpaid) of internship you’re interested in.

Per-project and contracting opportunities

We receive regular inquiries from contacts around the world interested in providing us with outsourced or per-contract development services. While we appreciate that there are many qualified professionals available who would be great partners in providing our clients with value, we do not have the time or resources to maintain active relationships with everyone who contacts us about such possibilities.  (In the case of generic, unsolicited contacts, we may not be able to respond at all.)

Therefore, we will generally only seek out outsourcing or collaborative arrangements when the nature of a particular project requires it, which is rare. In these cases, we will tend to tap those with whom we have already partnered successfully in the past, or who have established themselves as credible developers in the software and technology communities we frequent.
