Hosting Tip:

Registering domains - the human-readable addresses you use to get to websites - and keeping the registration up to date is unfortunately one of the more complicated and frustrating parts of having a website. Between constant fluctuations in registrar branding and pricing, unsolicited notices asking you to transfer or renew, changes in your contact information, and other issues, sometimes having a domain at all can seem like a real pain.

With hundreds of domains under our care, we've certainly spent time thinking about how to handle some of these hassles, but perhaps the number one tip we can offer is this: Make sure you know (A) who your domain registrar is, (B) what your login information is to access your domain account (username and password), and (C) when your domain is up for renewal. With those three pieces of information, you should be able to head off any unfortunate problems with owning a domain.

If you have any questions about domain registration or other hosting issues, just let us know by submitting a technical support request. And if you don't yet have a hosting account with Summersault, check out our great web hosting packages.

Full Circle -- October 2008

Technology Education

Greetings!

Welcome to another issue of "Full Circle" - the Summersault newsletter. I have to say that this whole "cold weather" thing here in Indiana has caught us a bit by surprise...it seems like it was just the other day that we were enjoying the warm summer sun and the adventures that came along with it. But we also appreciate the changing seasons for the newness and possibilities they always bring - another kind of full circle - so we're not complaining. I hope that wherever you are, you're having a great October.

One of our favorite things to do is to help educate our clients and community about the things that are possible with the technologies of the Internet. Sometimes this comes in the form of starting with the basics - what are those tools and technologies and how do they work? In other cases, we're talking to people who have been working online for years, but aren't quite sure how to take advantage of the newer trends emerging in web technologies. No matter what level they're at, we're always glad to create a presentation or workshop that's customized for their interests.

A few workshops and lectures we've given recently (or that are coming up):

  • Blogging Basics - presented at the Blog Indiana 2008 Conference
  • Rising Above the Noise: Strategies for Online Success - presented at the Accelerating Business Breakfast Series
  • The Internet as a Political Tool - presented at the Morrisson-Reeves Technology Series (see sidebar)
  • Adventures in Entrepreneurship - to be presented tomorrow at the "What's the Big Idea?" conference (see sidebar)

If you're interested in having an expert from Summersault speak to your group or organization, or if you know of other unmet needs in the area of technology education, we'd love to hear from you.

Take care!

Chris Hardie
Principal
