RICHMOND, IN – Summersault website development has recently launched a significantly updated version of 1-800-Save-A-Pet.com, a leading not-for-profit resource that helps animal shelters, humane societies, SPCA's, and pet rescue groups advertise their homeless pets to adopters for free. The project represents more than a year of project planning and development, and is one of Summersault’s largest database-driven website undertakings to date.
“We’re absolutely thrilled about the launch of this important site,” said Chris Hardie, Summersault co-founder and Principal. “It was not only one of the most technically interesting and challenging projects we’ve worked on, but also one of the most rewarding.”
The site redevelopment began in late 2003 when the California-based 1-800-Save-A-Pet.com identified various new needs related to the functionality and maintenance of its website. Summersault worked with the organization to design a complete re-development strategy, touching everything from the graphic design of the site to the underlying database-driven technologies. Summersault’s development team, using the latest open source software technologies and working closely with 1-800-Save-A-Pet.com staff, then rebuilt the site from the ground up.
David Meyer, co-founder and Executive Director of 1-800-Save-A-Pet.com, says that the re-launch of the site is a significant milestone for the organization. “We’ve always used the latest technologies of the web to save the lives of pets, and this new version of our site is another big leap forward,” said Meyer. “The new site not only broadens our reach and makes it even easier for pet lovers to find the dog or cat they want, but it also streamlines our management of the site and related resources.”
On 1-800-Save-A-Pet.com, users across the U.S. and Canada can search for adoptable pets near them, and view the details of those pets, including photos. They can also view information about animal shelters in their area, opportunities for volunteering, and more. Animal shelters can login and manage information about their adoptable pets. The organization has also collaborated with celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Kelsey Grammer and Eddie from "Frasier", Dick Van Patten, "Golden Girl" Rue McClanahan, and others to produce “The Save-A-Pet Show, an upcoming 30-minute adoption-promoting TV special that can be previewed on the new site.
“We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Summersault on this important life-saving project,” Meyer explained. “They are a ‘one-stop’ resource for us in the truest sense. From planning to programming, graphic design to site hosting, our partnership has been exceptionally successful.”
